Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, is in the far northern part of Thailand. It is just below the infamous "Golden Triangle", the area where Burma, Laos and Thailand all share a border, which was known for its opium production. Apart from the poppies, Chiang Mai is a beautiful, cultural city in the foothills of the Himalayas, boasting almost 300 temples, nearly as many as Bangkok.
